Six live tools and the journalism behind them. Each one is built on the same timestamped number as the board above.
Why Goldza exists
A straight number, and the knowledge to use it
Most South African gold pages are either a decade-old widget with no working, or a shopfront with a price bolted on. Goldza is a desk that publishes one honest, timestamped number for the metal, shows exactly how it is built, then teaches the part that decides what you walk away with, the gap between what your gold is worth and what someone will pay for it.
We buy nothing and sell nothing. When a buyer is worth naming, we name it in the open, on the record, next to its published rate, so you can hold it to the number on this page.

Straight answers
Gold price in South Africa, answered
- What is the gold price per gram in South Africa today?
- Fine 24ct gold is R2 273,29 per gram as of 10 Sept 2026, 06:16 SAST. Nine-carat, the karat most SA jewellery is made in, is R853,34 per gram; 18ct is R1 706,67. The board updates from the spot feed and is timestamped.
- How is the per-karat price worked out?
- Each karat is its legal gold purity times the price of pure gold: 9ct is 37.5% gold, 14ct 58.5%, 18ct 75%, 22ct 91.67%, 24ct 99.9%. So 9ct gold is worth 37.5% of pure gold, gram for gram. This is the metal value, before any buyer takes a margin.
- Is this what a gold buyer will pay me?
- No. This is the value of the gold itself. A buyer pays a percentage of it, and that percentage is where the money is won or lost. What SA buyers actually pay is set out on the what-buyers-pay page, typically 70 to 90 percent of melt for scrap.
- What does gold cost per ounce in rand?
- One troy ounce of fine 24ct gold is R70 707 at the timestamp above, worked from the spot price of pure gold. A troy ounce is 31.103 grams, heavier than the everyday 28.35g ounce, which is why per-ounce figures look large next to per-gram ones.
